HMCS OJIBWA Gets Patriotic

ojibwaCanada Day is approaching, and what kind of Canadian museum would we be if we didn’t throw a party?  This Canada Day, The Museum of Naval History will be dressing HMCS OJIBWA in red and white – a colorful and festive addition to her usually pure black exterior.


Decorations are only the beginning of OJIBWA’s celebration plans. The free event kicks off at 11:00 am with fun for young and young at heart including bean bag games, Frizz B Football, minute games, trivia, book sales, music, prize draws, and more. Scheduled throughout the day, visitors can take part in “Hands-on History” by participating in musket drills, WWII convoys or the perilous aftermath of the sinking of a war ship.

Brett Kissel Announced for Concert Series at 2015 Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show

The Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show, presented by Scotiabank, is thrilled to announce the first of two concert performances at the Grandstand for this year’s fair. On Saturday, October 10th at 8:00 pm, the Eastlink Concert Series presents Canadian Country Superstar Brett Kissel on the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show main stage. ATO kicks off by supporting Aboriginal communities and businesses first!

Aboriginal Tourism Ontario (ATO) is kicking off by engaging and supporting Aboriginal communities and businesses first, before tackling many of the tasks required to build an Aboriginal tourism organization in Ontario. ATO is a grassroots tourism initiative that aims to collaboratively plan and support the growth and future of Aboriginal tourism in Ontario. Great Spirit Circle Trail (GSCT) has spearheaded the ATO initiatives to date and has now undertaken a provincial wide stakeholder consultation and support process that ignites a collaborative effort in growing Aboriginal tourism across our province.

International Powerboat Festival arrives August 7th-9th

The 2015, Sarnia/Port Huron International Powerboat Festival arrives August 7th-9th.  The family and community-minded festival is going into its 5th year and will take place exclusively along the waterfront at Bayshore Park. The festival attracts upwards of 30,000 people over the weekend and showcases Sarnia’s beautiful waterfront. The festival kicks off Friday at 4:30PM with an out-of-water display of some of the powerboats racing!  Come down between 4:30PM and 6:30PM to get your picture with the drivers and the powerboats.

Kim Mitchell’s Homecoming

The Sarnia International Powerboat Festival has some big news! Sarnia native, Kim Mitchell will be joining Tom Cochrane & Red Rider on Saturday August 8th! The former lead singer of Max Webster, Mitchell went solo in 1982 and had big hits “Go For a Soda”, “Patio Lanterns”, and “Rock N’ Roll Duty”!

Elgin County Awards Funding to Local Festivals

2015 Festival and Events Partnership Program RecipientsElgin County Economic Development is pleased to announce that the Festival and Event Partnership Program grant recipients for 2015 have been chosen. Elgin County has granted a total of $5,000 to local events including Port Stanley Harbour Fest, the Shedden Rosy Rhubarb Festival, the Fred Eaglesmith Charity Festival and Bayham Beachfest (formerly Tub Daze).


“We are very pleased to once again be able to provide financial support to festivals and events in Elgin County,” said Tourism Services Coordinator Lindsey Duncan. “These events are signature experiences in our community, contributing to its cultural vibrancy and attracting visitors from outside the area.”

Provincial Tourism Week Kicks Off in Windsor on June 2nd

On Tuesday, June 2, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island is pleased to partner in the annual kick-off to Tourism Week at the province of Ontario’s Travel Information Centre (OTIC) in Windsor. The OTICs play an integral role in celebrating Tourism Week with their annual Open Houses, exhibiting what each region has to offer visitors for the upcoming, busy summer season and beyond.  This year we have also extended the boundaries of our region to include our tourism partners from Sarnia Lambton and Chatham-Kent.

Pan Am Flame to Light up St. Thomas

Pan Am TorchThe TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games are happening this summer, but before the games begin, the flame is making the rounds. The flame was lit in Teotihuacan Mexico before coming to Canada to begin its 5000+ kilometre nationwide journey on May 30th. Its final stop will be in Toronto for the Opening Ceremony of the games July 10th.


St. Thomas was selected as one of more than 130 communities on the route, and will accompany its arrival with a celebration. On June 17th, set in the heart of downtown in the historic L&PS Corridor, the torch is scheduled to arrive at 5:07pm. Following its arrival will be time for photo ops and speeches by local dignitaries.
