Promoting Local Farmers Through First-Hand Experiences in Chatham-Kent

A local community organization is hard at work putting the finishing touches on a weekend event showcasing local innovative farmers and producers and their unique and diverse products and crops. A full weekend of hands-on activities, tastings and special events as part of CK Table’s inaugural Rethink Food Weekend Sept 12th & 13th.

This is the fifth year CK Table has organized a special event on this weekend – winning the 2014 Ontario Culinary Tourism Award for Ontario Culinary Tourism Event of the Year for their CK Table Signature Dinner – a multi-course farm-to-table feast hosted at a local farm, using all local ingredients, and prepared by top-notch chefs.

Long Point Biosphere searching for Amazing Places

SandHillNominations are once again open to find the most “Amazing Places” in three UNESCO biosphere reserve regions of Ontario – Long Point on Lake Erie, eastern Georgian Bay, and the Frontenac Arch, including the Thousand Islands area. The Amazing Places project is a sustainable tourism initiative that highlights must-visit destinations that are rich in natural or cultural history, have breathtaking scenery, and are often home to extraordinary wildlife.

Andrea Kilian, Sustainable Tourism Project Manager for the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve, says: “The program appeals to members of the public to nominate their most favourite places within the UNESCO biosphere reserves. Last year, the pilot project brought in over 175 nominations, with 30 sites finally selected: ten sites in each biosphere reserve.”
