Promoting Local Farmers Through First-Hand Experiences in Chatham-Kent

A local community organization is hard at work putting the finishing touches on a weekend event showcasing local innovative farmers and producers and their unique and diverse products and crops. A full weekend of hands-on activities, tastings and special events as part of CK Table’s inaugural Rethink Food Weekend Sept 12th & 13th.


This is the fifth year CK Table has organized a special event on this weekend – winning the 2014 Ontario Culinary Tourism Award for Ontario Culinary Tourism Event of the Year for their CK Table Signature Dinner – a multi-course farm-to-table feast hosted at a local farm, using all local ingredients, and prepared by top-notch chefs.

Long Point Biosphere searching for Amazing Places

SandHillNominations are once again open to find the most “Amazing Places” in three UNESCO biosphere reserve regions of Ontario – Long Point on Lake Erie, eastern Georgian Bay, and the Frontenac Arch, including the Thousand Islands area. The Amazing Places project is a sustainable tourism initiative that highlights must-visit destinations that are rich in natural or cultural history, have breathtaking scenery, and are often home to extraordinary wildlife.


Andrea Kilian, Sustainable Tourism Project Manager for the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve, says: “The program appeals to members of the public to nominate their most favourite places within the UNESCO biosphere reserves. Last year, the pilot project brought in over 175 nominations, with 30 sites finally selected: ten sites in each biosphere reserve.”

Ontario South Coast Wines celebrate local food and wine at inaugural event: Toast the Coast

Sip and savour the flavours of the region at “Toast the Coast” on Friday, September 11.  The Ontario South Coast Wineries and Growers Association (OSCWGA) is working together with local FeastOn restaurants to present a first annual event celebrating local wine and food. This inaugural fundraising event will take place at Burning Kiln Winery on Sept. 11, 2015. Over 100 guests are expected to attend this year along with winemakers and chefs from the area.

HMCS Ojibwa Hosts Submariners This Weekend

SAOC visits OJIBWA Ojibwa opening ceremonies submarinersHMCS Ojibwa will play host to Canada’s submariners this weekend as they hold their Annual Meeting and BBQ in Port Burwell. The submariners and their guests will be attending a private dinner Friday evening, with meetings and a special evening tour of the submarine on Saturday and a farewell breakfast on Sunday morning. These remarkable men will be coming from as far away as Halifax.  As often happens on these occasions, many of them will become tour guides for the lucky visitors who come to the boat, particularly on Friday.

Marianas Trench Announced for the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show

The Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show presented by Scotiabank is thrilled to announce the Friday night concert performance for the Grandstand at this year’s fair. On Friday, October 9th at 8:00 p.m., the Eastlink Concert Series presents Platinum selling Canadian pop rock band Marianas Trench. Concert tickets for Marianas Trench go on sale on Wednesday, July 22nd at 9:00 am at This concert is funded by the Government of Ontario, Simcoe Reformer, and Scotlynn Commodities.

Mike Fiore Memorial CAN-AM Charity Poker Run to be held July 31st, 2015

The board members of the Performance Boat Club are pleased to announce The Mike Fiore Memorial CAN-AM Charity Poker Run from Sarnia to Windsor the weekend of July 31, 2015. We cordially invite boaters on both sides of the border to come together and unite to celebrate a great weekend of boating in support of a great cause.


On Friday July 31st, some of the most exotic offshore powerboats on the great lakes will start to arrive and gather dockside at Sarnia Bay marina. From 4-7pm, we’ll hold a raffle where lucky winners will win a ride in a performance offshore! There will be a drivers cocktail reception at the Sarnia Bay Marina pavilion from 7-9pm. The public are invited to come view the boats on Friday evening and Saturday before and after the run.

HMCS OJIBWA Gets Patriotic

ojibwaCanada Day is approaching, and what kind of Canadian museum would we be if we didn’t throw a party?  This Canada Day, The Museum of Naval History will be dressing HMCS OJIBWA in red and white – a colorful and festive addition to her usually pure black exterior.


Decorations are only the beginning of OJIBWA’s celebration plans. The free event kicks off at 11:00 am with fun for young and young at heart including bean bag games, Frizz B Football, minute games, trivia, book sales, music, prize draws, and more. Scheduled throughout the day, visitors can take part in “Hands-on History” by participating in musket drills, WWII convoys or the perilous aftermath of the sinking of a war ship.
